Cumberland Furnace Filled In, 2001
The slideshow below recounts the efforts of local individuals and organizations to fill in the Cumberland Furnace after its illegal excavation in 2001. The excavation posed not only danger to those who might wander, because it was not properly done, it was also done without landowner's permission and from an archaeological standpoint, represented the taking of history out of contex, which makes it difficult if not impossible to interpret a site.
