Meeting date: Wednesday, April 10, 1996, 7:30 p.m.
at Wheaton Village Crafts Building

Presentation
Kathy Clark, Principal Biologist for New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife, Endangered and Nongame Species Program will give a presentation at this meeting. Kathy is one of the main coordinators for the Program. She will update us on eagles, ospreys, shorebirds, horseshoe crabs and the South Jersey Regional Landscape Project. Ms. Clark has been with the Program for a long time and is very knowledgeable. She is the head biologist for the State osprey program and as such holds the banding permit under which we band osprey. You may have seen her in the Channel 23 Documentary – Survival of the Species.

Grant Award
We are pleased to notify our members that we have received a $10,000 grant through the 1996 Local Coastal Planning Grant Program administered by the Office of Environmental Planning, New Jersey Dept. Of Environmental Protection. New Jersey DEP and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration award these grants. This grant will be used to fund a film on “The Living Heritage of the Delaware Bayshore” a movie on the Cultural Landscape and natural resources of the Bayshore Region. The National Park Service’s Coastal Heritage Trail staff will act as technical advisors on the film. Once the film is under contract we will let you know more about the sponsors and possible telecast.

The Ospreys are Back, The Ospreys are Back
Our work crew for osprey platforms was super. At least 22 volunteers participated in erecting 3 new platforms. Nests were placed on the Peek Preserve, Centerton Lake, and at NJ Audubon’s new Research Center in Goshen. These volunteers have lots of stories to tell! Numerous other nests were fitted with new guards and/or branches were removed. It seems many ospreys just don’t know when to stop building. Most of last year’s active nests seem occupied already, we will keep you posted. A special thanks to all those who worked to make the day a success! Without the volunteers this program would not be possible.

We are working with the other members of the Stockton Alliance to host an ecotourism workshop at Stockton State College on May 10, 1996. Cost will be $50, for more information please contact 327-1161, ask for Jane.
