Annual Meeting November 9, 2005
(Normal schedule, second Wednesday of odd-numbered months)
Millville Public Library, Gant Room
This meeting will determine the active member list, the officers and trustees for the coming year. Please come out and support the perpetuation of the organization. The members and public are welcome to attend.
Bluffs Project– The Nature Conservancy and Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River and Its Tributaries, Inc. have been awarded a Conservation Fund, Watershed Action Grant 2005 in order to make a trail plan of the “Bluffs Preserve.” Primarily, existing trails will be utilized. Trails will be marked and interpretive/ visitor opportunities will be explored. Renee Scagnelli will be the CU representative on this project. She will be creating opportunities for students and adult volunteers to be involved in trail maintenance and learning experiences. As is always the case, any visitation program needs to be sensitive to any unique features and protective measures. The Officers and Trustees are excited to be part of TNC’s project. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in some of the late winter trail projects. Hardy souls with desire are sought by Renee. Please send e-mail to [email protected] or call Jane Galetto at 327-1161. When dates are selected we will contact those who signed up.
Rudderow Documentary– This newsletter goes to press before the big event- our NJN premiere of Reflections of a Bayshore Painter, Glenn Rudderow. Sign ups have been going especially well and we expect to report a full house and a wonderful evening. You should have received your invitation via US Postal Service and e-mail. If you should happen to get this newsletter before the Nov. 4, 2005 – 7p.m.showing at Cumberland County College’s theater, and have not signed up, there is a chance there may be seats available. Simply call NJN’s Sharon Deluca at 609-777-5001 to reserve your spot. If you can’t attend the premiere try to catch the broadcast versions on Friday, November 18 at 9 p.m. or Saturday, November 19 at 3 p.m. Oh yes eat a light dinner before the premiere because we are having a sweet time afterward (yes! desserts).
The New Jersey Birding and Wildlife Trails Delaware Bayshore guide is simply marvelous. Lillian Armstrong, the NJ DOT and company created a beautiful visitation guide to our area. On October 11, 2005 many of our members showed up at Wheaton Village for a Nature Based Tourism Rally. CU’s own Leslie Ficcaglia was a panelist on the program. The event was very nice and the guide was a howling success. Keep an eye out for the free guide. Guides will be available through the office of travel and tourism welcome centers around the state, and NJ Audubon Society centers through out the state. You can get ordering information on the NJAS website www.njaudubon.org.
Eagle Festival– On Saturday February 4 after the eagle festival we are planning a chili party. We need many hands and many participants. If you are willing to make chili, work the event, or help with some fund raising ideas please call Jane at 856-327-1161.
Conservation Pursuits– Having failed to reach a settlement with the developer of the Conectiv / Holly Farm tract our attorneys are preparing a brief requesting a summary judgment that would favor conservation of the site.
Racetrack Proposal– As of October 20, 2005 we continue to make our ongoing concerns regarding noise attenuation, wildlife impacts, buffers, hours of operation, traffic and the like known to the public.
Report on Canoe and Kayak Trips– Steve Eisenhauer reported that there were good turn outs for the canoe and kayak trips and a good time was had by all.
